About Australian Business Numbers (ABN)
An Australian Business Number (ABN) is an 11-digit identifier issued by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). This generator creates valid ABN format numbers with proper checksum validation for testing and educational purposes.
The last nine digits are the identifier itself and the first two are a checksum prefix, worked out so that a weighted sum of all eleven digits divides evenly by 89. That is why an ABN cannot simply be eleven random digits: a form, an accounting package or an import script will reject it. Everything this tool produces satisfies the checksum, so it exercises your validation code the way a real number would.
Already have a number and want to know whether it is well formed? Use the ABN validator, which also reads the ACN out of a company ABN. For the nine digit company number on its own, see the ACN generator.
